Why did you go into medicine?
I actually decided I wanted to be a nurse when I was 12 years old. I vaguely remember telling both my grandpas that I would take care of them when they were old. Apparently, I told them both this when I was about 7 years old. So, I ended up doing just that. My first job outside of the organic farm that I grew up on was taking care of an elderly woman in her home who required 24-hour care. I took care of her until I was 18 and then my journey in healthcare blossomed from there.
Was there any key person, milestone or pivotal moment that helped you become who you are as a provider?
I seek out mentors and I have had many through my life and career, but when I found Dr. Leggett, I knew I could learn so much from her. She was willing to teach me, and I could see from observing her with others, that I wanted to emulate just that. After all these years I am still getting to do that. I am grateful. I also feel that growing up the way I did, close to nature and having a family that truly invested in me, allowed me to be the loving and caring person that I am today. These are qualities that are instilled in a person at a young age, and I feel that I was so blessed to have what I had.
Reflecting on your career, what has been the most rewarding part?
Hands down the most rewarding part is that I feel I am doing my work. I feel I have purpose, and caring for people gives meaning to my every day. I love learning about everything from my patients. I love hearing their stories and getting to feel that I walk with them in their journey.
Why did you choose to be a part of Leggett Medical Group?
For all the reasons above. I like LMG because of its own brand in that care is provided in a holistic manner. Happy employees and happy family members make for happy patients. All of this is taken into consideration with Dr. Leggett and her vision for LMG.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
In my spare time I like to read, anything outdoors and in nature, travel to explore our beautiful planet and learn about new townsand places, exercise, network, and spend time with my family and friends. My father said I am a nurse practitioner to support my carpentry habit – I have remodeled several homes.
