Dr. Karen Leggett is a dedicated and caring physician. She completed her residency in Family Medicine at the University of New England and her Fellowship in Geriatrics at Florida Hospital, Orlando, the largest hospital system in Florida. She is board certified in both Family Medicine and Geriatric Medicine.
Dr. Leggett is skilled at managing complex acute and chronic medical conditions, and enjoys most of all caring for patients who are recovering from an acute illness or injury, assisting them to full recovery. She also enjoys interacting with her patients and knowing them as whole individuals.
Dr. Leggett also believes in open and ongoing communication between your full medical team. This includes your physician specialists, primary care physician, nurses, physical, occupational and speech therapists. She loves to guide you, answer your questions, and be a part of your team.
It was her love of this type of medical care that guided her to start Transition Physician!
...But it didn't actually start there!
Dr. Leggett and her husband David, father Melvin, and mother Essie, at her Geriatric Fellowship Graduation in 2004.
Transition Physician was founded on old fashioned principles, instilled in Dr. Leggett as a child by her loving parents who she is very fortunate to still spend time with on almost a daily basis. Her mother is a young 82 and her father a vibrant 95!
It is still important to Dr. Leggett to make her parents proud. She has a strong respect and admiration for her elders, and is honored to care for those who have the wisdom of age and experience. Dr. Leggett is very proud when she hears her parents telling others how their daughter really cares and listens to her patients with compassion and understanding.
Dr. Leggett is also very fortunate to have celebrated her 37th wedding anniversary this year with her husband, David. David manages Transition Physician and is a very pleasant individual should you have questions about your billing. With his dedication to managing the medical practice, Dr. Leggett has the luxury of fully focusing her attention on patients.
David and Dr. Leggett have one son who is a veterinarian and works for the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. He is married to a lovely lady who is a Child Psychologist and amazing mother of their 3 children, David and Dr. Leggett's twin 7 year old grand daughters and a 4 year old grandson.
And last but certainly not least...
Inka, the Transition Physician mascot, and Dr. Leggett and David's four-legged little girl!
